I have a Dell XPS 2720, running Windows 8.1. My system crashed and Windows would not boot. I had made a Dell recovery USB but when I tried to run it, either it didn’t succeed or I got an error message 0x400110020000100A.
I also had an Acronis backup on a USB drive but needed to boot Acronis from a rescue DVD. I went in to the system setup and changed the boot mode to Legacy to allow me to run and boot from the Acronis disk.
I reinstated the backup which was shown as having been successful. To be honest, I had no idea where all the different partitions in the backup went but I put them all on the hard drive, which I had previously cleaned.
Windows still would not boot so I returned the boot mode to UEFI and changed RAID to AHCI.
On my next attempt, Windows started to load but I got an error message followed by an "attempting repairs" message, which ran for half an hour before giving up.
Obviously, I've done something wrong but as someone with only modest technical knowledge I have no idea how to troubleshoot this any further.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
