Along with many. I cannot upgrade to 8.1 from Microsoft site. My system is on Windows 8.0 pro, which is a retail upgrade from Dell OEM windows 8.0.
When I upgrade, the entire download process is fine until final reboot, whereupon I get a blank screen with flashing cursor, and it hangs there. Eventually (I waited overnight once) I just hard re-start via the power button, the computer says it is trying to recover the installation, and hangs again. On the next hard re-start, I get a message that 8.1 could not be installed, restoring previous system.
I have the Intel rapid start and rapid storage installed, if that matters. One concern I have with trying one of the "unofficial" methods of downloading an ISO and doing a clean install is whether I might lose the Intel functionalities.
Does anyone from Dell have an idea based on feedback to date why I might not be able to upgrade to 8.1? Should I call Microsoft on this?
I don't understand why this is so complicated - talk about poor software support ...
