Soundmax problems in win8x64

Hi All,

I ran Advanced System Care Care over a mates windows 8 x64 on a Dell GX620 late last week and the sound stopped working so I got the Soundmax XPx64 driver and installed it in compatibilty mode and the volume icon still said "No Sound Output Device Installed". So I had a look around the net for more info on the no sound output device problem and i came accross Dell GX-620 and Microsoft Windows 8 and the comments by SpeedStep. I saved the url to 'microsoft catalog Analog Devices 5.12.2.7010   64 BIT' to a flashdrive and headed of to my mates place to finally fix the problem but to my surprise after unistalling the Soundmax XPx64 driver from Windows 8x64 and installing the 'microsoft catalog Analog Devices 5.12.2.7010   64 BIT' driver from microsoft windows 8 x64 still says "No Sound Output Device Installed". I checked to see if the driver installed ok and it seems to have but when I go to the "Sound applet" in control panel the Sound applet locks up as it did with the XPx64 Soundmax driver.

I am at a bit of a loss as when to go or what to do next to get my mates sound working again.

Could installing the XPx64 Soundmax driver have caused the problem with the Sound Applet?

And if so how do I fix it without having to do a complete reinstall of windows. I tried to get System Restore (Recovery Applet) to to restore it back to and earlier time but there was no restore points on the machine.

Any help with this problem would be wonderful.

Mark - puzzled and confused
