Hello,
So I bought a Dell OptiPlex 3020 back in January but had asked for it to have Windows 7 Pro instead. They sent it as requested along with a Windows 8.1 DVD. The chassis does in fact have a Windows 8 sticker on the back so I have no doubt that it should be able to support it. However, I push the DVD in, and no matter whether from boot or within the OS, I still get asked to enter a product key. From my experience, when using an OEM disk on a Dell, it shouldn't even ask. It should be able to pull this information from wherever it does.
The BIOS has been set to boot in UEFI mode w/ SecureBoot enabled. I've also tried this with all legacy options enabled and I still get asked. Why isn't this working? It's worked on every machine with the Windows 8 sticker except this one. I even took the product key from the Windows 7 installation and that didn't work either. There's no other key associated with this purchase (to my understanding).
Regards,
Shawn
