I found Dell Data Back Up and Recovery to be an absolutely terrible service. On set-up I made a mistake typing in my email address, and there is no way to correct the error, which means my computer is now forever assigned to a non-functional account (because I will never get the email link that allows me to activate it).
You would think they would have had a step where the email is tested, and you get a message back that says, "Unable to verify email address" or something like that. Or, at least, a time period where if an account doesn't get activated, it gets deleted, allowing the person to start fresh. Or provide the ability to delete your own account. Even after uninstalling and re-installing, when I try to start fresh, I get a message saying that my computer's ID# already has an account. In fact, records show a back up has been executed, but to where, how?
But what really bugs me is there is no customer support. The Dell folks gave me a phone number for a third party company, but it is just a recorded message saying there are no agents available, and then it hangs up - you don't even get put on hold. I tried this number over a few weeks, it never changed. There is no contact information on their website.
So now I am back dealing with Dell itself via Twitter, but they seem unable to resolve the issue. So if you are thinking of using Dell Data Back Up, be aware that has at least one obvious flaw and zero customer support. It worries me that some unresponsive, unreachable company, whose actual connection to Dell is unclear to me, has access to my data.
