My first laptop was a Gateway. When it started to run a little funky, I could run a clean install with the supplied disks & it worked like new. After eight years, the Gateway went to laptop heaven & the search for a replacement was on! Searched the 'Net, read all the reviews, & decided to give Dell a try. A mere three years later, it became infected with something that made downloading anything impossible. Couldn't even download the Microsoft patches for this nasty virus going around infecting Internet Explorer. You'd think a clean install may just be the trick, right? Wrong! Tried all the restore methods. Dell Data Safe Backups? Nope. Nothing but nothing worked! Nada. Zilch. And then Dell won't let you purchase installation disks without warranties? Too bad. And no...I won't be calling Dell Support in India. Love you guys over there, but I that's not happenin'. It didn't seem to help anyone else on the forums with the same issue. But wait! Lo and behold I did find a solution. It's a Duke Nukem I've been saving just for days like this! It'll erase the entire laptop then I'll be able to donate the thing to Goodwill as a doorstop. No more Dell, no more Internet Explorer.
