Am I correct that Intel's Rapid Storage App manages the use of the cache mSata cache drive ?
I have a Dell 17R SE 7720 that did not come with a mSata SSD cache drive. If I add one, what do I need to do so that the OS starts making use of it ? Install Intel's Rapid Storage Software ? Can that be done without a complete reinstall of the OS on the 1TB drive ?
I also have another Dell 17R 7720 that DID come with a mSata SSD cache drive. It has been upgraded to Windows 8.1. I noticed Intel's Rapid Storage application will not launch. Is it true Win 8.1 broke it ? Is there a simple solution ? A quick look at Intel's latest version download seemed to talk of a total reinstall of the OS.
Might as well ask
- what might be the performance hit of using a large cache drive with write through to the 1TB HD compared to a true SSD drive (no write through to the 1TB) in a typical non-write intensive Windows environment ? I have a special need for fastest possible boot time.
- Is there an obvious tool that can migrate the 100gb contents of the 1TB drive to a SSD THAT Supports the new boot UEFI mode ? Last time I looked most migration tools don't support UEFI ? A total reinstall would be more than annoying.
