Hi,
I will try to explain as best as I can my situation:
I own an XPS 8500 special edition (with a solid state harddrive). A few weeks ago I tried to install a Windows 8 preview. The solution I found to be able to dual boot Windows 8 with my factory default Windows 7 was to create a new partition from Win 7 and then change the SATA Mode from RAID to AHCI in the Bios. For a few days, everything went smooth.
Today, Windows 8 (preview) decided to reboot to install some updates. I was greeted with a ":(" blue screen and Windows 8 didn't boot anymore. Since I bought a copy of Windows 8 Pro, I thought it was simply time for me to upgrade.
I booted with the CD and I tried to install it over my Windows 7 install. During the setup process I was greeted with this dialog:
Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. To install Windows, restart the installation
Now, I'm stuck with a PC that will not boot and I cannot reset it to its factory default when launching the command line from Windows 8 install.
This is really annoying, I _NEED_ this PC running, I have important stuff to do with it! I'm already upset that I lost quite a lot of work with the faulty update...
Any information to get my PC in a working state (Windows 7 OR 8) would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Eric
