My Dell XPS One 2710 failed to restart from standby a week ago it kept repeatedly performing startup repair but with no success, and after numerous attempts to try and restore from a saved image I've run out of ideas.
Here's the following I have tried:
1) Use the HDD recovery partition - followed the steps Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options -> System Image Recovery that throws up a 80070490 error before even checking for the existing of images.
2) Use a Windows 8 installation DVD to legacy boot (no option to UEFI boot from DVD) - following similar steps as above and that ended with a cannot restore an EFI image when booting from BIOS.
3) Use a Windows 8 repair disc (USB drive - UEFI boot) - again as before in 1, but this resulted in the message "To restore this computer, Windows needs to format the drive that Windows Recovery Environment is currently running on. To continue with the restore, shut down this computer and boot it from a windows installation disc or a system repair disc and then try the restore again"
For 3) does this mean the Windows Recovery Environment stored on the HDD as the recovery partition or the Repair Disc? Should I just go ahead and remove all Dell created partitions on the HD keeping the EFI partition and the regular data partition?
And Dell HK support told me to use Dell Backup and Recovery - which clearly is not an option since I only have the Microsoft image... Helpful Dell HK.
