Windows 8 partitions

Windows 8 partitions I've noticed on my fairly new Inspiron 660 there are 7 partitions. 1 NTFS primary 2 OEM primary 3 4 Recovery ... 2x 350 MB 2GB 13.5GB 4 EFI system 500MB No. 1 partition I assume is the main system, 2 is Dell's partition which will give you the factory settings etc. and I think 4 is something to do with boot loading programs? It's the 4 recovery partitions that I'd like explaining please. Surely there isn't a new partition for every time you do a backup? If that's the case can redundant ones (one's that have been superceded) be deleted, if so is there any way of identifying the contents of each partition's contents. Thanks for any assistance. And a supplementary question, how do you get the forum to keep my post as I composed it on my word processor and not lose all it's formatting
