I have a dell XPS 13, model 9333 which has been working wonderfully for me for a year and a half now, but as of yesterday (10/11/2015) in the early afternoon it will not boot. I last used the machine Friday, 10/09 with no issue, and shut the machine down fully as I did not intend to use it over the weekend. When I came back Sunday afternoon and attempted to boot the machine, I got nothing but a black screen. I have had this issue before and been able to resolve it myself, so I held the power button for fifteen seconds with all cables and connections removed, then attempted to boot again, but with no more success than the first time. I checked everything I could to verify the machine was, in fact, turning on; brightness was turned up, power was on, and so far as I could tell all hardware was functioning properly. I ran LCD BiST (Build in Self Test) and the screen registered color and appear to operating normally. After this, I plugged the machine in to power and tried again, still encountering the same issue. I left the machine for a while, and came back, when I pressed the power button the machine started right away with no issue, and functioned as normal -- I stupidly assumed this meant the issue had been resolved. I shut the machine off and later went back to do some work, but encountered the problem again. Since then I have been unable to boot the machine whatsoever.
Some observations:
-Screen and keyboard backlights both turn on
-Power indicator light turns on
-Fan does not turn on
-No sounds from machine to indicate boot process was initiated
-Machine passed LCD BiST
-Machine recognizes power source, and charges when plugged in
-I was able to charge an iPhone off the machine, and the phone asked whether or not to trust the computer, indicating the computer is functioning
From my research and investigation, it appears hardware is functioning normally -- I can only conclude that the boot process is, for some reason, not initiating itself -- where do I go from here?
