I recently got a Dell XPS 8500. It came with Windows 8 (which I quite like). It also came with the system recovery files on the hard drive and Dell's Backup and Recovery software, Metro version.
I want to create a Rescue disk.
1. Open the Dell Recovery & backup software
2. Click on "Rescue Disk"
3. I get a screen where it shows a box labelled "Current Drive" - there is no drive listed there. Instead it's outlined in blue and there's a clock with the hands turning around and the words "Loading"
4. If I click on the Change Drive button, I get a screen that says, "Space needed is 11.xx gb" and another endlessly turning the clock face.
No drive ever shows up in the list. I have a 500gb Western Digital drive connected all the time for back up. I also have tried a variety of USB sticks. No luck.
I am not a Dell premium backup member and am not trying to use the System Backup button. I handle backups to the Western Digital drive via GoodSync.
Thanks for any advice you can give me! Obviously, I need some kind of back up reinstall disk. Screenshots, service tag, etc available on request.
