Hi  I am having quiet the difficulties doing a clean install of Windows 8 onto a new hard drive. On each attempted, I recieved various stops from: cant find media (lost cd drive), cant write to registry, and mainly Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation. Please note, this is a disk straight from Microsoft. I also tryed another disk and tryed Windows 10 with the same errors

I have tryed several different methods starting with a raw drive, making partitons, copying entire cd over to the hard drive. I checked the drive for errors, changing dvd drive. Nothing else other than mouse, keyboard is plugged into the system and I have also tried with and with out the primary hard drive plugged in with the same results

My system bios is set non raid, and it does not have uefi or secure boot. I believe I am either not formatting correctly or a setting in Bios isnt correct

How can I install WIndows 8 on this machine??

Any help appreciated

Thanks Rick

Ps also posted this in the desktop section as I wasn't sure which group is the correct one

Unable to uninstall mysearchdial program

Hi,  Like many people it appears I have been hijacked by the above program, ie it appears as my default search engine when I start up Google Chrome browser.  I am fully versed with the ways of uninstalling this rogue software from my PC, HOWEVER, when I open 'Windows 8.1 Control Panel/ uninstall, the program named ''mysearchdial'' or anything remotely sounding similar, is no where to be found on the list of installed programs. If I employ Windows 8.1 file search for ''Mysearchdial'', it comes back with zero trace.    Very annoying.   Can anyone offer any advice ?

How to get the WIndows 8 installation recovery media from dell?

Hi.

The HDD on my laptop crashed recently after which Windows was not booting. I had started the reset process using Dell Recovery but I do not have the recovery media of the original OS (Windows 8.1) which came with the laptop.

I have following questions regarding same:

1. What is the procedure of obtaining the Windows 8 operating system iso from DELL?

2. If dell can provide the requested, what are the charges for the same?

3. If the license key is embedded in the hardware then can I use any windows 8 installer iso to reinstall the OS?

Dell XPS l421 - Dell Recovery and Restore USB hanging forever.....

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I upgraded (seemingly free) to Windows 10 (from 8.1 but suffered with various non-responsive issues so tried to install Win 7 from external usb  DVD drive. No luck here as windows would not recognize any internal drive. My  next thought was to try and use Dell provided USB recovery and Restore USB. This starts to work but than hangs about 20 minutes in and just doesn't move, tried waiting overnight etc.

I have previously done a FULL system diagnostic check and nothing indicated wrong with hardware.

Any help would be very appreciated. I don't mind Windows 8.1, 7 or whatever - this is just a laptop for tethering my digital cameras to while shooting.

XPS8500 - Windows 8.1 installation / Cannot retrieve SLP key

Hello everybody,

The installation procedure provided in this site says :

"Look at the product ID at the bottom and see if the product ID mentions the words OEM. If the license is OEM then your product key will reside within the system UEFI/BIOS known as a System Locked Preinstallation (SLP) key. If you have a supported OEM Edition proceed to Downloading a Windows 8.1 with Update 2 .iso."

However in my case, my product ID well contains the words OEM but the installation procedure (from Windows 8.1 with Update 2 .iso)  doesn't  retrieve it and ask me to enter the key manually and as everybody knows,  the windows key is definitly not provided by Dell.

Can somenone tell me what is the solution to perform  a clean Windows 8.1 reinstall on my XPS8500 ?

I must precise that my Dell runs actually Windows 10. I want to downgrade to 8.1.

Thanks for any reply.

windows 7 pro reinstall

My Dell Ispiron (direct from dell) came loaded with win 7 pro, and a re-install disc for win 8.1.  I immediately created two re-install discs for the factory loaded win 7 pro.  A few days ago, due to many issues, I re-installed win 7 with the disc I made.  I initially was able to connect to Windows Update and about 65 updates installed.  After a few days of not getting any new update, clicking Win Update opened window that ran without saying no updates available, or downloading any new ones.  I then began to get error messages.  The first was ox80070002.  Couldn't fix it.  Then 0x8007002c.  Finally the clincher was ox8007007b.  A validation problem, I believe.  I found a direct link to validate windows, which indicated I had a valid copy, but Update still won't work.  I then inserted the first disc to re-install win 7 again, saving everything I wanted to an exterior dive so I could do a complete clean re-install without saving any of my files, thinking there was a virus somewhere, even though the computer seems to run great.  Now those dvds won't run.  There may have been files on my "D" drive that were lost.  Will the activation code on the win 8.1 disc validate the win 7?  I don't want to go to 8.1.  I just want Win Update to work.  Help!, if there is any.  Thanks, Gene

DELL ST2 with Windows 8 is suddenly shutting down

Hy ,

I have a DELL Latitude 10 ST2 and it has windows 8 installed. The problem with the tablet is that is shutting down by itself. What I presume is that Windows got some updates and because of that is shutting down.

Did anyone encountered this problem? When tablet is powered on it stays like this for maximum 10 seconds and after that it shuts down.

I did a diagnostic and all the tests passed.

Thank you in advance! [:)]

Backup error and MigRestore

I ran the Dell Backup and Recovery utility when my system had some issues.  It created a backup on my C: drive but the restore utility locked up during the process and now cannot "see" the backup on the disk.  I read that using Migration Restore can fix this...when I run it I can locate the folder containing the .inp files but receive error code 87 when I attempt to restore.  I'm unable to find info on this error code to try to correct it...help!  My system has reverted to bare bones Win8 in the interim and I'd love to get my files back.

INSPIRON 7520 WINDOWS 8 OEM

Good evening everybody,

After quite some unsucessful researches, I decided to finally post my question to make it clear...

I have a Dell INSPIRON 7520 which came with windows 8 inside (so that is what we call an OEM version, right ?) It has been given to me back in the days in France but now i live in Canada.

I would like to do a clean the drive and install Windows 8.1 right from the start since I found my system quite slow after doing a reset with the option given by the system itself, and after all the endless windows updates to make it to 8.1 ...

So, is there someone around here who can tell me the options I have to do that ? Can I ask Dell for a win8.1 disk ?

Thanks a lot !

Inspiron 3521, Clean Windows 8 install, no WIFI connection

I did clean re-install of windows 8 from a cd that Dell sent me when they first fixed my new computer. The reinstall programed on the computer was no good, so sent it back, they fixed it, but sent me an install only for dell cd for windows 8. Did the install, went to wireless in setup, it showed me the two options for wifi and airplane mode. When I clicked on airplane mode both option disappeared.  Unable to find a way to get wifi. They also sent me a dell drivers disk, installed the wifi adapter they had, but when I go to device manager there is none. I have three objects with an exclamination point by them. They are Network Controller, PCT Simple Commuications Controller and VSB2.0 CRW. The install CD was for 3521/5521 and or 3721/5721. Right now I have no connection to the internet, unless I try an Ethernet connection. Why would I have this problem using a Dell Install CD? Can you help me get my wifi back so I can add my programs etc? Let me know how to reply to your answer also as I am new at this.

Tks

Need help regarding OS

Hi There,

I could not find exact solution through the forum or internet. So posting my question here.

I have A dell Inspiron 5542. It came loaded with windows 8.1. (the dell site shows this when service tag is entered. but does not specify which version ? home/professional/enterprise and which English US or UK.)

I upgraded the windows to 10, when the upgrade from Microsoft was available. It went well.

But unfortunately I did not note the version of windows nor do I remember it.

There was a HDD crash later, loosing the version and the license key. The new HDD mounted, but not sure about which windows version to install.

Please suggest so that I can restore the OEM licensed windows 10 on the laptop.

Checking Media Presence and Press F1 to Reboot.

$

I had replaced by HDD on Alienware 15 R2 by Samsung 850 EVO and had MBR on that which was pointing to windows BOOT Samsung 951 NVME with SATA operation set to RAID. Everything worked perfectly. But this week I purchased Samsung 960 EVO and put it in place of Samsung 951 which had PCEI x4 interface and shifted 951 to vacant slot with x2 interface. Everything again worked fine.

But though I was getting recommended sequencial speeds 3100 MB/S and 1900 MB/S, IOPs were very low at about 120000. So I changed to safe mode in both Windows installations and changed SATA operation to AHCI and boot again. Thereafter problem started. Though boot order was 960 EVO and 951 NVME, it would show message of Checking media presence F1 to Reboot and F2 for Setup. If you press F1 it would go to 951 and not  960 EVO. But if your restart it would show dual boot options and allow to select 960 EVO as default option. If you select windows on 960 partition it would boot correctly and I would get 380000 IOPS. Secondly Samsung Magician could recognise hard disk and I could install Samsung NVME Driver which increased speed to 390000 IOPS.

So I boot from Windows 10 usb and selected repair option. First I corrected MBR with bootrec command. The problem did not solve. So I corrected UEFI.with bcdboot pointing to Windows installations on 960 EVO. Now I have funny problem. Whenever I power on my notebook it goes directly to 960 installation in few seconds (with secure UEFI boot option). But if I restart (from windows 10) it gives me checking media presence message after few seconds it states Press F1 to reboot, F2 to Setup... . If I press F1 it goes to 960 EVO installation. If I go for shutdown option from Windows and start with power button, everything works perfectly. But again if I restart from Windows problem repeats.

There is no other problem. Support Assist shows all test passing for all the 3 drives. But Samsung magician shows only 2 drives Samsung 850 EVO and Samsung 960 EVO. But windows disk partition as well as explorer shows all the 3 drives and all partitions work perfectly.

What is going on here. How I can correct this problem which is more of minor irritant.

i have visited dell web suport i says as given below ,

MY QUESTION IS THIS WHAT IT THE USER CHANGE HIS MOTHEBOARD , I HAVE ONE WORKSTATION ISSUE , ASKING FOR PRODUCT ACTIVATION KEY

DETAIL BELOW,

Dell Precision T3620    IS ASKING FOR PRODUCT KEY AFTER THE MOTHERBOARD CHANGED BY DELL WARRANTY PLZ NOTE

Where is my Windows product key, and how can I tell that my Windows 8 or Windows 10 installation is genuine?

Table of Contents:

  1. Where is the Windows 8 or Windows 10 Product Key?
  2. Identify a Genuine Windows 8 or Windows 10 Computer
  3. Where is the Windows 7 Product Key?

This article describes how Windows 8 and Windows 10 Product Keys work, and how to identify a Windows 8 or Windows 10 Genuine system.

Where is the Windows 8 or Windows 10 Product Key?

Factory-installed Windows 8 and Windows 10 computers differ from previous versions of Windows. Previously, the Product Key for Windows was attached as a label on the computer so that, in the event that the computer required reinstallation, the key could be referenced for activation.

For Windows 8 and Windows 10, the Product Key is "injected" onto the computer motherboard at the factory, and the installation and activation processes refer to the BIOS of the computer to verify authenticity and activate Windows. No Windows Product Key is otherwise provided or needed by the customer.

Identify a Genuine Windows 8 or Windows 10 Computer

Dell computers that are factory-installed with Windows 8 or Windows 10 carry one of the following logos on the palmrest, which verifies that the computer is a Genuine Windows 8 or Windows 10 system and has a factory "injected" Product Key on the motherboard.

For more on specific labels that Microsoft uses on computer hardware, refer to Microsoft's How to Tell website. Click on the What to look for tab at the top of the page for images and information

Where is the Windows 7 Product Key?

Windows 7 computers have either a product key located on the computer or a Windows 8 product key injected into the motherboard and a downgrade license for Windows 7. For more information about Windows 7 and prevous versions of Windows, see the Microsoft site.

Hi

I try to install Windows 8.1 on a Dell Latitude 5550 but I cannot go through the installer because it won't show me any hard disk., The disk is available in the bios but not in the Windows installer.

I read tons of article about it and I try to browse to drivers that I copied on a usb drive

I have tried these with no success

Intel Rapid Storage Technology F6 Driver

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver and Management Console

When I browse to the first one there are 10 choice possible and if I check the box to show only compatible I have 1 choice. None of them works and I can never see my hard disk.

I know the hard disk is working since it have an os installed at the moment

I have try to sed the bios to UEFI or BIOS

I have try to set the sata settings in the bios to AHCI, disable or raid, nothing is working

I have spent 10 hours on this so I really need some help

Thank you very much
