I have a Dell XPS 27 All in One Desktop PC.  This came with Windows 8.1 (Core Edition)

Can someone please help me to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Centre?

Microsoft stopped upgrades from their site a few months ago.  So I am stuck.  Please help.

Inspiron 3647 won't activate Win 8.0

Bought 5 of these about 14 mo ago. One wouldn't activate. Dell sent a MB and still wouldn't activate. Couldn't reimage the PC at the time and now I'm out of warranty. Showkeyplus shows Windows 7 OEM marker present in firmware. This came from Dell with Win8 reinstalled. Do I have any resort at this point in getting this to activate without purchasing a new license?

My 3520 had a popup asking me to upgrade to Win 10. I selcted "not at this time"....my computer went to a blue screen first telling me I had lost "boot command"...it then went to a black screen telling me the Boot Configuration Data was missing.
My Win8 recovery disk does nothing but finish the install and then tells me the installation can't continue and contact my net administrator or Dell Support. I have tried a fresh install of Windows but same thing...I get the following:

File: \Boot\BCD

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.

Any ideas?

Thank You

Hi,

Question Re: XPS 8700 with Windows 8.1.  if computer is no longer able to boot into Windows.

And Restore is not able to correct issue.

And Refresh is unable to correct issue.

But Dell Backup and Recovery indicates no issues were found and now asks to Reinstall Operating System.

is Installation Restore/Original Image Media required to complete the Reinstallation usind Dell Backup and Recovery?

Alternatively if the Reset My PC option is used is Installation media required?

Thanks.

Windows 10 - An Unexpected Guest...

Hello!

I wasn't sure where to initially place this discussion, as my question revolves equally around Windows 8.1 and Windows 10...

I currently own a Dell XPS 15 laptop that had a factory pre-installed version of Windows 8.1. About 2 and 1/5 years after buying it, I had to replace my hard drive because my laptop wouldn't boot but now (for some reason) I have Windows 10 loaded on my laptop but this version is not activated and it doesn't recognise the product key that used to be on my laptop.

I've tried to apply a factory reset to my laptop but it just pre-installed Windows 10 again - and since my laptop was pre-installed with Windows 8.1, I don't actually have my product license key.

In short (ha!) my question is this - is there any way I could get my valid version of Windows 8.1 back? From what little reading I did, my product key should be found in my laptop's BIOS/motherboard - does this mean that even with my replaced hard drive, this can still be found somewhere in my laptop?

I have installed a new HDD in a friend's laptop... It was running win8... He did not have a recovery DVD nor do I find the Product Key anywhere on the laptop...

Any suggestions on how to get the OS back on the laptop and activate it ?.....   Even windows 10 will do if it is still a free upgrade

Thanks in advance for your help

hi all,

i have around 10 Dell OPT 3020MT PC's with dell win 8.1 pro license. due to software compatibility issue i have downgrade all these PC's to win 7 pro using dell win 7 pro OEM DVD. every thing works well until microsoft has done audit in my company and found out that all the downgraded PC's contain 32KD2-K9CTF-M3DJT-4J3WC-733WD key which came with dell installation media. so now microsoft claim that is this not legal. so i want to know what will be the Legal procedure to downgrade PC's with Windows 8.1 pro to Windows 7 Pro in multiple PC's?

Vostro 3458 w Win 7 Pro installed - only received 8.1 recovery media disk

I ordered a Vostro 3458 with Windows 7 Pro installed.  But when I received it, the only disk that came with it was the Dell Operating System disk for Windows 8.1 Recovery Media for Windows 8.1 Products 64-bit.

Does this disk also have the Win 7 Pro operating system on it, or do I need to contact Dell and get a replacement Win 7 Pro operating system install disk?

Will Windows 8.1 "Expire" If Kept Offline?

$

I am running a fully legitimate, licensed, activated copy of Windows 8.1 x64 Pro MCE.

I've been refining a "no Windows Updates, no system networking allowed by firewall" configuration, as I'd like to keep my current perfectly working, privacy-enhanced setup running indefinitely (not moving to Win 10 yet, if ever).

By blocking Windows 8.1's attempts to communicate regularly with Microsoft's servers, am I setting myself up for it to deactivate itself in the future? I'm concerned that Microsoft may have built in a time bomb.

If the answer is yes, I can consider occasionally opening the firewall (ideally as little as possible) and allow it to do occasional license or Windows Update checks - though the chances I'll be actually installing any more of Microsoft's actual updates are slim.

As you can imagine, the information online on or around this subject is more oriented to making an unlicensed installation activated. Let's avoid discussing that if at all possible, that's not my intent.

Thanks for any knowledge on keeping Windows 8.1 running "off the grid" that you're willing to share.

I had a database in status SUSPECT (No items).  I have not Backup. I've only .mdf and .ldf files.
After reading all answer regarding thi topic, I executed all commands to fix this status, but without success.
I also executed the following comands for recovering my database :
sp_detach_db 'Mydb'  (and the following message: "Successfully detached database 'Mydb'." )  then executed
sp_attach_db @dbname = N'Mydb',
   @filename1 = N'E:\MSSQL7\Data\Mydb_Data.MDF',
   @filename2 = N'E:\MSSQL7\Data\Mydb_Log.LDF' and the following error message : ("Server: Msg 823, Level 24, State 1, Line 1 I/O error 38(Reached end of file.) detected during read of BUF pointer = 0x11c01980, page ptr = 0x1f6bc000, pageid = (0x1:0x7bea01), dbid = 7, status = 0x801, file = E:\MSSQL7\Data\Mydb_Data.MDF.
Connection Broken "
I executed command with the Service Manager stopped (I don't know if it's important)
Please I'm desperate. What can I do to recover my db.
I'm not expert in SQL Server and it would be appreciate if the answers were very clear

i have visited dell web suport i says as given below ,

MY QUESTION IS THIS WHAT IT THE USER CHANGE HIS MOTHEBOARD , I HAVE ONE WORKSTATION ISSUE , ASKING FOR PRODUCT ACTIVATION KEY

DETAIL BELOW,

Dell Precision T3620    IS ASKING FOR PRODUCT KEY AFTER THE MOTHERBOARD CHANGED BY DELL WARRANTY PLZ NOTE

Where is my Windows product key, and how can I tell that my Windows 8 or Windows 10 installation is genuine?

Table of Contents:

  1. Where is the Windows 8 or Windows 10 Product Key?
  2. Identify a Genuine Windows 8 or Windows 10 Computer
  3. Where is the Windows 7 Product Key?

This article describes how Windows 8 and Windows 10 Product Keys work, and how to identify a Windows 8 or Windows 10 Genuine system.

Where is the Windows 8 or Windows 10 Product Key?

Factory-installed Windows 8 and Windows 10 computers differ from previous versions of Windows. Previously, the Product Key for Windows was attached as a label on the computer so that, in the event that the computer required reinstallation, the key could be referenced for activation.

For Windows 8 and Windows 10, the Product Key is "injected" onto the computer motherboard at the factory, and the installation and activation processes refer to the BIOS of the computer to verify authenticity and activate Windows. No Windows Product Key is otherwise provided or needed by the customer.

Identify a Genuine Windows 8 or Windows 10 Computer

Dell computers that are factory-installed with Windows 8 or Windows 10 carry one of the following logos on the palmrest, which verifies that the computer is a Genuine Windows 8 or Windows 10 system and has a factory "injected" Product Key on the motherboard.

For more on specific labels that Microsoft uses on computer hardware, refer to Microsoft's How to Tell website. Click on the What to look for tab at the top of the page for images and information

Where is the Windows 7 Product Key?

Windows 7 computers have either a product key located on the computer or a Windows 8 product key injected into the motherboard and a downgrade license for Windows 7. For more information about Windows 7 and prevous versions of Windows, see the Microsoft site.

Can't find Win 8 Product Key

Hello,

I bought a Dell Vostro Laptop 2 years back. The OS corrupted and I need to repair/reinstall the OS now. It seems that there is a recovery partition in the Laptop but I am unable to reach there.

Can you help me with the procedure to use the Recovery Partition? I want to use it because otherwise I will end up losing all the data on my system.

Also, when I try to reinstall the OS, it asks me for the Product key. I heard the Key now resides inside Motherboard and I can't access it. How to move ahead with the Installation now when I don't have the key? Can Dell send it to me Privately?

Regards,

~Siddharth
